John Ogilvie was born in 1580 at Drum, near Keith. Educated a Calvinist, he was received into the Catholic Church by Father Cornelius a Lapide. He became a Jesuit, was ordained priest in 1613 and landed in Scotland that year. In Edinburgh and Glasgow he reconciled many to the ancient faith, but was betrayed, imprisoned and tortured, and finally hanged in Glasgow in 1615.
